"Different faces - Common spirit" (2012)

Lithuania - Polish youth exchange project  (2012 April - November)

During a 6-day youth exchange 12 Lithuanian and Polish young people were particpants and aimed to foster multicultural dialogue and mutual understanding. Using photography as both an interesting subject for young people and an educational tool, the participants discovered that differences between the countries (in subjects such as poverty, love, peace and violence) are much smaller than they appear. The topics touched by the participants included social inequality, gender issues, discrimination, xenophobia and racism.

The use of non-formal education methods helped the participants to find answers to questions on human rights that are important in both countries. They have also learned to use their creativity and make unique pieces of art - scrapbook collages. During the project the participants also visited 3 ethnic communities (Jewish, Polish and Bielorusian) to discuss the topics touched by the project with them. The project has tried to change the attitudes of the youth towards the problem of stereotypes in our society and also strengthen the perception of people by their individual behaviour.

The project was financed by the Lithuanian-Polish Youth Exchange Foundation. The partner of the project - Education and Social Research Center (Poland).
